Hello readers!
I'm starting to wonder if going to a university is for me. I'm feeling the presuure and stress of being accepted to SPU. It's already time for me to pick classes. I'm not even sure of what I want to do. I'm leaning to social work but I don't want to make the wrong choice. I'm not sure I will be able to handle being out on my own. I'm very spoiled and now I'm worried about the real world because of how much I was spoiled. My mom still does all of my paper work. Perhaps this is just jitters but I'm seriously wondering if I'm ready for SPU or if I will ever be ready.
I suggest you keep giving it a lot of thought. Entering a university and making a goal will be huge factors in what you decide in the future. You should pray and ask the lord to give you signs and to bring you people to help you decide what to do.
ReplyDeleteYou know it's just always scary to go to college, to go to university, period. I remember when I stepped into Cornish College of the arts and how much it freaked me out. I learned so much that year when I moved out on my own, I entered college, and I started a new world. A most important thing I learned was that nobody was going to let me fall. It sounds like you have a wonderful family, and wonderful mother, who will be there to catch you if you start to fall. So because you have this safety net I think that you should feel safe about jumping. We all have to jump out of that mast, and it's not an easy thing for any of us. It will be hard, but it also will be enlightening, new, exciting, and you will grow immensely. Regarding what you should do, see if you're able to take prerequisite classes, you know the kind of classes that every college student needs to take for their undergraduate degree first, to see if that buys you a little bit of time. You can try one class related to the topic of social work to see if it's something you're interested in. I'd also start to do some research in social work to see if it really is a career path for you. But remember, most people in today's world and having more than one career in their lifetime and this is now a normal thing. Hang in there!

I'm not sure how things work at SPU, but fortunately most 4-year universities don't require you to declare a major in your first year. It's normal to be anxious right before undergoing a big life change, and no doubt that's what this will be, but if you're having trouble figuring out what you'd like to do, I would recommend scheduling some time with an adviser at SPU (or even at South) and talking about things. Advisers can give you helpful information and help to take some of the stress out of the situation.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Thank you all for your words of wisdom and support! It means a lot to me!
